Why Crossroads?

"What makes us different"

I was recently perusing the search engines, taking a look at some of the other training programs, and was shocked at the number of entities out there who claim to deliver "quality" security training. There are so many training choices on the market for protection professionals, it has become increasingly difficult to choose a good program. With this in mind I decided to take a minute and discuss some of the features that separate Crossroads and the TSTN, from the rest of the pack.

All Crossroads schools or programs enjoy a few distinctions...

On The Lookout
"Be aware of suspicious signals"

By: Tony Scotti

Throughout history terrorists have appeared invincible. They plan their operations meticulously to ensure success and, once implemented, they seldom fail to strike and kill their targets. If their attack is against an individual, terrorists gather information and intelligence through surveillance. To select a target, terrorists begin by picking a group of individuals. The information they collect during surveillance is used to narrow the field of candidates. When a target is finally chosen, surveillance continues. The reason terrorists succeed is that they never attack unless they have a well-organized plan, and their plan is supported by information and intelligence gathered through surveillance.

Protecting the Executive During a Major Event

"Communications"

When taking stock of the many components that comprise a protection detail, no component is more critical than communications. The ability for all members of the detail to be able to receive information and disseminate information rapidly is crucial. I explained in the first article of this series, the uniqueness of providing security during a major event, never is there more evidence of this uniqueness than in the case of providing effective communications for the protection team.

When we think of communications most of us would naturally think of this as the ability to speak and pass along information between members of the detail. This is certainly one facet of communication, during this article I am going to discuss this and many other facets of communication and information dissemination that would be common for the protection element during the event.

The Abduction of Sergei Kukura
Lessons Learned

By: Nate Foster

Sergei Kukura, the 48-year-old CFO of LUKoil, was kidnapped from his company Mercedes in Vnukovo, Russia on 12 September 2002. Five or six masked, camouflaged men in two different vehicles assaulted Mr. Kukura. LUKoil, the largest oil company in Russia, produces one-fifth of the country's exported oil. Given Mr. Kukura's position as CFO of this corporate giant in a tumultuous and often violent region, there are several possible perpetrators of this crime. The possibilities include a kidnap and ransom gang, business competitors, and corrupt police officers.

What is a Protection Driver?
"A view from the field"

By: Anthony J. Gibson

When I received Jerry's invitation to participate with an article focusing on the duties and responsibilities of a "Corporate Protection Driver", surprisingly, I had no clear thoughts on where to begin. After all, this is a job demanding constant readiness on many levels. How was it then, that I was unable to recall any information on a subject with which I am highly familiar? The fact that it was Monday morning and I was much in need of a second cup of coffee may have contributed. A short time later, coffee in hand, I was able to see the work of a corporate protection driver as the art of combining specific skills with a particular state of mind. To be more precise, the trust placed in the driver works best when a certain hybrid of experience precedes it.
