CROSSROADS TRAINING ACADEMY
EXPANDS CURRICULUM Fred Foster -
president of Seventrees Corporation and chief
executive officer of Crossroads Training Academy
- has made an announcement restructuring the
relationship between the two companies and
expanding training opportunities available from
Crossroads. These changes are effective July 1,
2006.
"Seventrees has a long history as
a provider of special protection operations to
major corporations, government agencies and
individuals at risk dating back to 1983. During
these years, our capacity to train security and
law enforcement personnel and other
professionals in specialized areas has grown
from our field experience - in high-risk site
security, dignitary protection, workplace
violence mitigation and other tactical and
mobile intervention teams.
"During this
time, Seventrees also established a working
relationship with the leading trainer of
security drivers in the fields of protective
vehicle operations, attack recognition and
avoidance, and surveillance detection. Under
contract to Tony Scotti we operated Scotti
School Mid-America throughout the 1990s.
"Today, Crossroads Training Academy
continues that tradition in partnership with
Tony Scotti Associates. All of the original
Scotti programs are available from
Scotti-certified instructors, updated for the
21st century.
"Beginning in July, all
Seventrees training programs will move to
Crossroads to expand its curriculum and
establish a consistent training format and
presentation. In addition to the full spectrum
of Scotti-based programs for security drivers
and executive protectors, Crossroads will also
offer traditional Seventrees training in:
- Workplace violence prevention,
investigation and intervention - Security
for sensitive meetings and events -
Deployment and management of armed tactical
security teams - Tactical firearms skills
for the real world - Professional
development for uniformed protection personnel.
"All of us at Seventrees and Crossroads
look forward to these changes. More than ever,
the nation and the world depend upon government,
military and private sector protection teams for
a safer and more productive future. Our
objective is to share knowledge and lessons
learned with fellow-professionals toward a more
secure tomorrow for the people and institutions
who rely upon us all."

The Assassination of Rafik
Hariri
 On September 14, 2005,
Rafik Hariri, former Prime Minister of Lebanon,
was assassinated while driving himself in his
armored Mercedes from a pre-election meeting at
Parliament near Nejmeh Square to his residence
at Kuraytem Palace. Mr. Hariri and 21 other
people, including members of his security
detail, were killed in a massive explosion when
a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device
(VBIED) detonated as his motorcade passed by the
front of the St. George Hotel on Minae Al-Hosn
Street in downtown Beirut. Mr. Hariri's murder
occurred against a backdrop of intense political
and cultural upheaval and violence resulting
from his efforts to limit, if not completely
eradicate, Syria's invasive and corrosive
influence in Lebanese social and national
affairs. All evidence (including the complexity,
required resources, and circumstances of the
crime) indicate that the attack was planned and
carried out by a cabal of Syrian and Lebanese
intelligence services under the direction of the
highest-ranking Syrian officials and their
cohorts in Lebanon's corrupt political system.

Special Considerations for the
Protection Driver
Anyone can jump into a car
a drive another person around. All that is
needed is someone with a car who knows the area.
Protection driving is more than just driving
someone from point A to point B. If that is all
that is required, the client should consider a
chauffer instead because it may be more cost
effective. Protection driving encompasses more
than the driving itself. Full

Protection Vehicle Inspection
Checklist
 The ability of a
protection vehicle to move its occupants out of
harm's way in the event of a drive-time
emergency is dependent upon both its mechanical
and operational readiness. All protection
vehicles, regardless of operational and
environmental levels of risk, should be
thoroughly inspected before going into service.
The inspection performed must be duel-track -
the security driver must ensure both the
vehicle's mechanical soundness and its security
before allowing his protectee to occupy it.
Included in this article is the protection
vehicle inspection checklist issued by
Crossroads Training Academy to all of its
vehicle operations students. Full

What are you Shooting
Tex?
 There is only one correct
answer to this question. Whatever you are
confident with. Since the semi-automatic
handgun became popular with police departments
in the early 1990's, the question of which gun
is better, the revolver or the semi-auto pistol
has been asked over and over again. I have heard
expert shooters, gunsmiths, gun dealers, police
officers, and firearm instructors answer this
question with as many different answers as there
are gun manufacturers. There is no "one gun"
that is perfect for everyone and every
situation. There is however a perfect gun out
there for you - the gun that you are confident
with. Experts argue that the semi-auto holds
more rounds. Other experts argue that the
revolver has more grip options for the many
different sizes of hands. The revolver is combat
proven. It won't jam. The semi-auto is easier
and faster to reload. There are strong arguments
for both types of weapons. Full
