 Tony Scotti and the
instructors of Crossroads Training Academy have
been on the road again. This time we were in
Santa Fe, New Mexico working on the track at the
New Mexico State Police training facility in the
state's beautiful capital. We conducted a
five-day EVOC Instructor Development Program
from June 6 through June 10, 2005 for members of
law enforcement agencies from all over the "Land
of Enchantment."

Lines and Apexes
 Knowing how to maneuver
around corners and curves is important for all
drivers. Driving "fast through the corner" does
not mean how fast a person is driving when
entering the corner, but rather safely driving
through a corner as quickly and efficiently as
possible with skill and precision. In order to
accomplish this task, drivers need to use as
little steering force as possible to carry speed
through the corner. This is done by
"straightening out the corners" or, in other
words, make the path of the car through the
corner the largest radius possible. The larger
the corner's radius, the faster it can be driven
through. For

Armored Vehicle The
decision to purchase an armored vehicle is a
difficult one at best, and when tasked with that
responsibility nobody sets out to make a bad
decision. It's usually the lack of good
information, or worse yet bad information that
creates the problem in the decision making
process. It has to be said that in all fields
there are products designed to work well in one
scenario but fail in another and products that
simply don't work. Armored vehicles are no
different - except with armored vehicles "not a
good product or a product that does not fit the
scenario" can get people killed. Full

Shots Fired and Lessons Learned:
When the Student Becomes the
Teacher
 We recently had a student
from Latin America with an interesting story to
share with the instructors of Crossroads
Training Academy. Roberto is the security driver
for a rather high-profile principal in Central
America. A short time before joining us in
Michigan, Roberto came under fire while
transporting his principal and his principal's
wife. Full

Security Driver
Seminars
 This is a seminar
dedicated to executive protection specialists
and those responsible for the safe
transportation of others. Nowhere is the
individual more vulnerable than in an automobile
- THE WEAK LINK, experts agree, in the security
chain. Students will be given a brief
introduction to vehicle dynamics and techniques
to escape or evade a vehicle ambush. Students
will also learn how to detect a potential ambush
and select the safest route and identify safe
havens. The students will understand the various
types of vehicles appropriate to the selected
mission. Pro's and con's of the different
vehicle types will be presented. We will discuss
the various types of car bombs, when they are
used, who uses them and what you can and cannot
do to protect against them.
Sport
Utility vehicles have become much more prevalent
in the security industry especially as it
relates to transportation of the VIP. We will
discuss the capability of the SUV and
considerations surrounding it's use.
Car
Jacking has become a major problem. Students
will review case histories of successful
carjackings. We will separate fact from fiction,
and discuss how to avoid a car jacking and what
to do if one occurs.
