The Assasination of Haji Abdul Qadir Lessons Learned On July 6, 2002, Afghanistan Vice President, Haji Abdul Qadir, was murdered as he left his office in downtown Kabul. As one of the few ethnic Pashtun members of a Tajik dominated government, there are several possible suspects and motives for Mr. Qadir's assassination. The possibilities include revenge seeking Taliban fighters and former rivals in the Opium trade to which Mr. Qadir's family has long been associated.
